Best Poster Award at the MPS World Summit 2025
Elia Pennati, PhD candidate in Bioengineering at Politecnico di Milano, joined the Microphysiological Systems (MPS) World Summit held in Brussels from June 9 to 13, 2025, presenting the work “A mechanically active biomimetic Bone Marrow-on-Chip as in vitro model of the bone marrow niches.”
The project, developed in collaboration with Lund University within the framework of the BuonMarrow initiative, proposes an innovative approach to recreate the complexity of the bone marrow microenvironment in vitro, combining biological and mechanical cues.
We are proud to share that Elia’s work was recognized with the Best Poster Award, underscoring the relevance of the research conducted in BuonMarrow and its potential to advance human-based platforms for studying hematopoietic physiology and disease.

Mid-term Review Meeting
The BuonMarrow team gathered from May 4th to 6th, 2025, for its Mid-term Review Meeting, hosted by the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in Barcelona. This three-day event marked a key moment in the project, providing an opportunity to assess progress, discuss results, and refine the roadmap for the upcoming phases.
The meeting included a formal review session with external monitors, who evaluated the project’s technical and scientific developments and provided valuable feedback to guide the next steps. In parallel, several internal working sessions enabled project partners to engage in open discussions, align strategies, and reinforce collaboration across work packages.
This milestone meeting strengthened the consortium’s shared vision and set the stage for the next stages of this ambitious research journey.

Synergy Workshop in advanced Organ-on-a-Chip
The BuonMarrow team had the pleasure of participating in a dynamic synergy workshop held on April 8, 2025, organized by Prof. Fabiana Arduini. The event brought together several EU-funded projects in the Organs-on-Chip (OoC) field, creating a unique space for collaboration and knowledge exchange. The workshop took place in the stunning setting of Villa Celimontana (Rome, Italy), a beautiful historical venue that added a special atmosphere to this inspiring day of scientific exchange.
It was a valuable opportunity to present BuonMarrow’s goals, connect with fellow researchers, and explore exciting new possibilities for innovation and cross-project collaboration in the OoC landscape.

Kick-off meeting
The kick-off meeting of the BuonMarrow project took place at Politecnico di Milano (Milan, Italy) on April 3, 2024. The meeting was attended in person by all partners. During the meeting, an introduction was provided by the coordinator, which included an overview of the EIC financing scheme and of the project. Following this, presentations were made by all partners to showcase their expertise and the status of their research. Finally, there was a presentation on project management to discuss governance bodies, ethical issues, data management, and so on. The day concluded with a consortium dinner.
